The services sector is the largest contributor to India’s Gross Value Added (GVA). In 2025–26, its GVA at current prices is estimated at ₹169.64 lakh crore, accounting for 54.03% of India’s total GVA of ₹313.95 lakh crore. The industry sector contributes ₹87.17 lakh crore, or 27.77% of total GVA, while the agriculture sector contributes ₹57.14 lakh crore, accounting for 18.20%.

At 2022–23 prices, the services sector accounts for 53.31% of India’s GVA. The industry sector contributes 28.98%, while agriculture and allied activities account for 17.71%.

The primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors account for 20.09%, 25.87%, and 54.03%, respectively.

According to the World Bank, the sector-wise composition of India’s GDP in 2025 was 16.23% for agriculture, 25.20% for industry, and 49.34% for services. With agricultural output valued at $642 billion, India is the second-largest producer of agricultural products after China and accounts for 13.04% of global agricultural output. India’s agricultural value added is more than half that of China, which stood at $1,298 billion. The industry sector has a GDP of $997 billion, ranking India fifth globally, while the services sector has a GDP of $1,951 billion, placing India seventh globally.

Under the previous methodology, at current prices in 1950–51, the agriculture & allied, industry, and services sectors accounted for 51.81%, 14.16%, and 33.25%, respectively. By 2013–14, the share of agriculture & allied sectors had declined to 18.20%, while the shares of the services and industry sectors had increased to 57.03% and 24.77%, respectively.
