According to the IMF World Economic Outlook (October 2025), Canada's nominal GDP in 2025 is projected to be around $2,284 billion, $40 billion more than the $2,244 billion in 2024. In 2013, Canada’s nominal GDP was USD 1.847 trillion, increasing by only a modest USD 437 billion over the past 12 years. In 2004, Canada became the world’s 9th national economy to surpass $1 trillion in nominal GDP, marking its entry into the trillion-dollar economy milestone.

Canada currently accounts for about 1.95 percent of the world's GDP, but its share of the global economy—after peaking at about 3.16 percent in 1976—has steadily declined, reaching an all-time low of 1.93 percent in 2020 as other large economies expanded more rapidly.

Canada is currently the tenth-largest economy in the world, trailing ninth-ranked Russia by approximately $257 billion while being very close to 11th-ranked Brazil. Canada attained the highest rank of 7th in 1974 and has consistently remained among the world’s top eleven economies throughout the modern period. Estimates by the World Bank are available since 1960, when the country's GDP was 41 billion USD.

The service sector accounts for approximately 66.39% of Canada’s total GDP, while industry contributes around 25.33%, and agriculture makes up only about 1.60%.

Canada is the second-largest economy in North America in nominal terms, accounting for around 6.42 percent of North America’s total nominal GDP.

Based on PPP, Canada's GDP in 2025 is forecast at 2,723 billion international dollars, the 16th highest in the world, and it has remained among the top twenty all the time. Canada contributes 1.30% of the entire world's GDP (PPP). The gross domestic product (GDP) of Canada at purchasing power parity (PPP) is 1.19 times the GDP at nominal.

Within North America, Canada ranks as the third-largest economy by GDP (PPP), behind the United States and Mexico, and accounts for nearly 7.10 percent of the region's total GDP at PPP.
