List of continents by GDP per capita

As of 2026, North America has the highest continental GDP per capita in the world. At $62,533 in nominal terms, North America's GDP per capita is 406% of the world average. Oceania ranks second at $49,802, followed by Europe at $43,686. There is a significant gap between third-ranked Europe and fourth-ranked South America, where GDP per capita stands at $11,775.

In PPP terms, Europe ranks second, followed by Oceania in third and South America in fourth place. Africa remains the poorest continent by GDP per capita, while Asia ranks as the second poorest.

Four subregions have a GDP per capita of more than $50,000. Northern America is the richest subregion, followed by Australia and New Zealand, Northern Europe, and Western Europe. All four have a nominal GDP per capita more than four times the world average.

In PPP terms, the same four subregions occupy the top four positions, although the ranking differs. Western Europe ranks second, followed by Northern Europe and Australia and New Zealand. At the other end of the nominal ranking, the bottom three positions are occupied by African subregions.

Australia and New Zealand recorded the largest increase in GDP per capita in 2026, adding $8,367, followed by Northern Europe with an increase of $4,846. All subregions experienced an increase in GDP per capita.
