As per the report of the Technical Group by the National Commission, the population of Jammu and Kashmir is projected to be 13,733,000, or 13.73 million, or 1.37 crore, as of July 1, 2024. Jammu and Kashmir is the second-most populous UT in India and is in 20th position among all states and UTs. Jammu and Kashmir’s population is projected to reach 1.48 crore in 2036.

The size of the population of Jammu and Kashmir is equivalent to that of Burundi, the 68th most populous country in the world.

In 2024, the sex ratio of the total population in Jammu and Kashmir will be 109.600 males per 100 females. There are 7,136,000, or 7.14 million, or 71.36 lakh, males and 6,500,000, or 6.5 million, or 65.00 lakh, females in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir has 629,000, or 629k, more males than females.

Jammu and Kashmir accounts for 0.98 percent of the Indian population, which is 0.03% less than the peak level of 9.42% in 2001. The population growth rate for 2024 is projected at 0.71%, which is the 14th highest among all states and UTs. Jammu and Kashmir will add 97k more people in 2024.

According to the Census of India 2011, the population of the state of Jammu and Kashmir was 1.22 crore, increasing from 0.99 crore in 2001. There were 6,483,906 males and 5,783,107 females, with a sex ratio of 112.118 males per 100 females. The percentage of decadal growth during 2001–2011 was 23.82%, 5.56% lower than the 1991–2001 period. The population of Jammu and Kashmir increased by 2.36 million during the decade 2001–2011.

The population of Jammu and Kashmir, which at the turn of the twentieth century was around 4.18 million, increased by approximately 6.61 times in 123 years to reach 13.73 million in 2024. In 1901, Jammu and Kashmir was in 19th place among all states and UTs, but as of 2024, Delhi surpassed it.
