According to the IMF World Economic Outlook (October 2025), Spain's nominal GDP in 2025 is projected to be around $1,891 billion, $165 billion more than the $1,726 billion in 2024. In 2008, Spain’s nominal GDP was USD 1.636 trillion, increasing by only a modest USD 255 billion over the past 17 years. In 2004, Spain became the 8th national economy to enter the list of trillion-dollar economies.

Spain currently accounts for about 1.61 percent of the world's GDP. Its share of the world economy, which peaked at around 2.54 percent in 2008, has steadily declined over recent years. Historically, Spain’s share reached a minimum of 0.91 percent in 1960.

Spain is currently the 12th-largest economy in the world. Spain attained the highest rank of 7th in 1992 and has consistently remained among the world’s top 16 economies throughout the modern period. Since 1992, the GDP of Spain has been overtaken by China (1994), Brazil (2008), Canada (2010), Russia (2010), and India (2010), leaving Spain in the current 12th spot. Estimates by the World Bank are available since 1960, when the country's GDP was 12 billion USD.

The service sector accounts for approximately 68.90% of Spain’s total GDP, while industry contributes around 19.45%, and agriculture makes up only about 2.75%.

Spain is the sixth-largest economy in Europe in nominal terms, accounting for around 6.38 percent of Europe’s total nominal GDP.

Based on PPP, Spain's GDP in 2025 is forecast at 2,829 billion international dollars, the 15th highest in the world, and it has remained among the top 17 economies. Spain contributes 1.35% of the entire world's GDP (PPP). The gross domestic product (GDP) of Spain at purchasing power parity (PPP) is 1.50 times the GDP at nominal.

Within Europe, Spain ranks as the sixth-largest economy by GDP (PPP) and accounts for nearly 6.46 percent of Europe’s total GDP at PPP.
