Northeast state Sikkim has the highest per capita income among 33 Indian states and union territories, followed by Goa. Capital Delhi, Chandigarh, and Telangana complete the top five list. Among the five richest economies of India, three are states, and two are union territories.
Among Top four richest states/UTs, three have a population of less than one crore (10 million). And, one has a population below three crores. 5th ranked Telangana has the highest figure among states population having more than three crore, followed by Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. All five South Indian states have higher gdp per capita than India's average. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, and Assam are the top five poorest states.
GSDP Per capita of Sikkim are above three times India's average. GSDP per capita of lowest ranked Bihar is three times lower than of India.
In US Dollar, the GDP per capita of Goa is $7,553 in 2022. Four states/UTs have GSDP per capita above $5,000, and only Bihar has below $1000.
GSDP per capita is estimated by GSDP divided by population.
GSDP per capita in Dollar, Formula = 2366*(GSDP of state in Rupee)/(GSDP of India in Rupee). (for example, gdp per capita of Tamilnadu = 2366*311778/194879. Tamilnadu GSDP per capita in 2022-23 is 311778. According to the World Bank, the GDP per capita of India is $2,366 in 2022.)
