As of July 1, 2026, North America's population is projected to reach 621,279,954 (621 million), up from 617,311,580 (617 million) on July 1, 2025. The region will add approximately 3.97 million people in 2026. Its population is projected to increase by another 92 million, reaching a peak of 714 million in 2083.

North America is the fourth-most populous continent, behind Asia, Africa, and Europe. It is projected to surpass Europe in population by 2054. North America's population is 181 million higher than South America's, accounting for 58.51% of the total population of the Americas. North America accounts for 7.50% of the world's population. Its share of the global population peaked at 8.98% in 1962 and is projected to decline to below 7% by the end of the century.

Northern America accounts for 62.71% of North America's population, largely because it includes the United States, the world's third-most populous country. Central America is home to 30% of the continent's population, while the Caribbean accounts for the remaining 7.21%.

North America has the third-highest population growth rate among continents in 2026, at 0.62%, behind Africa and Oceania but slightly ahead of Asia (0.57%) and South America (0.53%). The continent's population growth rate peaked at 2.10% in 1961. Central America is the fastest-growing subregion, followed by Northern America. All North American subregions are projected to maintain positive population growth rates until 2044.

Since 1950, North America's population has increased by 181%, the second-lowest growth among continents, ahead of only Europe.

North America is projected to add 3.88 million people in 2026. Its annual population increase peaked in 1992, at nearly 6.29 million.
